Latest word is no word yet as of Monday morning whether Dad, Bruce and Chris have made it to Justin's in Austin for the guy-bonding fishing trip in the gulf. Melody dropped Bruce off in York at a McDonalds along I80 wherein he got into the car with Chris and Dad and they took off on Saturday morning. Who knows where they could be ... guys don't like to stop and ask for directions!

While visiting Bruce and Melody this evening Chris called and shared the news that Scott and Angie have a new little daughter, Sophie. This is their 3rd daughter.

I had a very enjoyable evening and also lucked out and had a very nice dinner that Melody prepared that also came with dessert... I think Yoshi runs off weight on these play-dates she has with Lady, and I end up gaining weight!

The Bunik guys (Dad, Bruce and Chris) are going to be off to the Gulf coast for their annual fishing trip, leaving Nebraska this Saturday and heading towards Austin, Tx to pick up Jason. I feel absolutely no remorse for not being invited to join in! Two brothers and my father in a car for a thousand mile road trip one-way does NOT sound like a real good time for me.

I was seeking some live cam shots of the snow in Denver and came across live cam shots at about 6pm mountain time. Thought it was really pretty ... like sharing the sunset with Cassie!

Some news out of 9news.com in Denver tonight:

DENVER - While the roads were dry in Denver and the temperature was back in the 50s Tuesday, for lots of people the storm left behind a big mess.

Thousands of downed limbs around the city still need to be cleared. Farther east, muddy roads will keep the Agate school district closed for another day.

While most of the snow has already melted, totals from the previous day are impressive, especially in towns to the south and east. Strasburg got 20 inches, Watkins 22 inches and Bennett 19 inches.

A large section of I-70 east of the metro area was closed overnight, but reopened at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

About 6,000 Xcel Energy customers remained without power Tuesday down from about 100,000 a day earlier.

"It's been almost exclusively tree damage," said Mark Stutz, with Xcel Energy. "We've seen some problems with wind, some problems with melting snow that causes galloping lines. And in the foothills we're seeing saturation of the ground."

The company says crews are working to reach everyone soon. If you have a friend or neighbor who is still without power, you can call 1-800-895-4999.

Hundreds of farms and ranches northeast of Greeley won't have power Tuesday night because of Monday's storm. In the area around Briggsdale and Raymer, the weight of the snow toppled miles of power lines.

I set up my "Surfing Journal module" in order to expand my own consciousness of famous people or celebrities in the news. Recently I have been also posting the articles I write for my Surfing Journal also on my "Cave's Cyberspace Window blog", i.e., The Cave. The Cave being my now oldest continually updated site on the internet. The other day I wrote about Tyra Banks' porn star look-alike. This show was on television yesterday wherein she confronted the porn star, so the search engine hits began especially on The Cave blog. In contrast, my Surfing Journal has only about 30 as a result today (so far at about 1pm).

Pushing 80 degrees at 3am

My eyes popped open this morning at 3am, it was too warm too sleep so I got up and put on my pot of coffee and decided not to fight it and just stay up. I looked at my favorite weather site to see the temps and thought it was interesting that right now it is 77 degrees in Lincoln while right down the road in York it is 54 degrees with light drizzle. The high for today is "suppose" to be 62 degrees, however, this current 77 degrees is why I'm awake in the middle of the night. I guess my weather site does not consider 3am part of Wednesday.

At least, I am now appeased that there is a chance my apartment may cool off pretty soon with a cold front carrying rain down the highway west at York, Nebraska moving towards Lincoln.

I frequently joke that the reason people live in Nebraska is to be able to complain (bitch) about the weather. The Great Plains actually is really a geographic wonder making for dynamic weather conditions and finds only similarity to the Steppes of Russia and Mongolia. My geographic input for so early in the morning. For some unknown reason, Mongolia is always someplace I would like to visit... strange thought for before 4am in the morning.

It is so warm in my apartment, however, my little Yoshi the tiny rat terrier decided it was way to early to start her day and she once again jumped on the couch and buried herself into the feather comforter I keep there. Here is a picture I snapped of her yesterday morning when she finally decided to wake up for her day and immerge from her blanket and stretch about 11am .... she does like to sleep in ... I swear you can't beat a feather comforter for good sleep.

Update at 5:00 am:
The temperature has now dropped to a more seasonable 64 degrees.
Watching the temperature literally drop before my eyes is too entertaining

Update at 5:08 am:
Temperature now 57 degrees and there is thunder and lightening and beginning to sprinkle.

The temperature now has dropped 20 degrees over the last two hours since I woke up because it was too warm. Yoshi is now sitting on my lap because the thunder is scaring her (too cute)

Not alot of news for the 1st day of October. Bruce and Melody headed up to the Lake to visit Dad, however, I choose to remain in Lincoln. Just not up to that kind of weekend ... my stress level does not need to be elevated.
Guess, if I did what "I should" I would be taking a 4-hour trip up and back to the Lake. WHY?

After much thought, I have decided to get rid of my paid hosting for my domain name of lindabunik.com. If you put that domain in your browser you will reach a window that will redirect you to my Front Page on Blogger:

For those unacquainted with blogging, you will notice in the upper right hand of the window a button which says "Next Blog". This will transfer you to another random blog on Blogspot. You can keep pushing that button to continue visit other blogs out there in blogland to provide you with an idea of the variety of blogs to be found. Creating a blog on Blogspot is very easy and there is even a button at the top "Get your own blog" that transfer you to their easy setup menu to create your own web diary (blog).

My Cave Blog has gotten alot of new search engine hits

I couldn't figure out the hits I had been receiving from "Project DU (digital universe)" described as a guide to the blogosphere with headlines from 30 blogs, commentary from 9 editors. I then visited their website and discovered that the Post that I had spent quite abit of time working on from different news sources and published on September 21st entitled "The word "problems" minimimize what Country Music singer Mindy McCready faces" was cited on Project DU's website. I have set out by Cave blog's September 21st McCready post in its entirety below:

OxyContin is a problem in North America
and has definitely been a problem for 29 year-old Mindy McCready.

Mindy McCready was been on 3 years supervised probation after pleading guilty in August 2004 to obtaining OxyContin fraudulently. She was fined $4000 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and is facing a Probation Violation hearing on November 14, 2005.

Since August 2005 Mindy McCready has been a busy gal:

On May 6, 2005 McCready was stopped for speeding and wound up being charged with drunken driving and driving with a suspended license, which earned her first probation violation.
On May 8, 2005 McCready was beaten and almost choked to death by her on-again, off-again boyfriend William McKnight, 38, who allegedly ambushed the singer in her home. He is charged with attempted murder as a result.
McCready is charged in Arizona on counts including unlawful use of transportation, unlawful imprisonment and hindering prosecution stemming from an incident involving a stolen pickup truck. McCready has missed two court dates in Arizona due to her hospitalization resulting from her drug overdose. A rescheduled arraignment is set for October 3, 2005 but it is not clear if she will be permitted to leave Tennessee.
McCready becomes pregnant
In July 2005 McCready was found unconscious due to a drug overdose in a hotel lobby in Florida. William McKnight, her "boyfriend" who in May 2005 was charged with attempting to murder her, but who had "reconciled" with McCready, was at the scene and reportedly gave police her suicide note. McCready claims her pregnancy is the reason for her suicide attempt.
On August 26, 2005 is locked up in jail on a second probation violation charge due to leaving Tennessee without permission and failing to contact her probation officer during the month of July , 2005.
On September 16, 2005 Mindy was experiencing medical complications from her pregnancy and was released on $50,000 bail after spending 10 days in jail resulting from probation violations. Under terms of bail, she must remain with 50 miles of Williamson County, submit to random drug tests, wear an ankle monitoring device, meet with a probation officer twice a week, and be home between the hours of 7pm and 6am.
On Monday September 19, 2005 McCready was in court requesting her $50,000 bail provisions be eased claiming she is scheduled to appear on The Oprah Winfrey show at the end of September. The court ruled that she could break curfew with her probation officer's permission but rejected her request for bail provisions to be eased. She was also ordered to begin serving 8 hours of community service each month.
McCready is now facing a Probation Violation hearing on November 14, 2005.

And, Mindy's McCready's unborn baby faces it's own issues. Neonates of mothers who have used Oxycodone chronically may exhibit respiratory depression and/or withdrawal symptoms, either at birth and/or in the nursery.

McCready, had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time".

Monday Night Football didn't interfer with Lady and Yoshi's playdate

The batteries in my camera do not last very long and I should have put fresh ones in before I went over for the play-date last night (Monday, Sep 26, 2005). Some of the pics I downloaded from my camera were completely black and required my real editing to see what the photo was about. They will not get any prizes, but here are some that I took at Bruce and Melody's last night:

Lady, the cocker spaniel and Yoshi the rat terrier are like constant motion when they are together. Jeb and Bruce were able to watch the Broncos beat Kansas City ... so they had their own little "play-date", too. Melody and Bruce fixed a wonderful ham dinner, so a good time was had by all last night.

Ronald Calvin Lucas, 57, of rural Nauvoo, Ill., died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at his home.

Born May 30, 1947, in Norfolk, Neb., he was the son of Clayton Calvin and Eleanor J. Bunik Lucas. On Jan. 22, 1966, he married Karen Graham in Carthage, Ill.

Mr. Lucas worked for Benner Tea Co. in Keokuk as the produce manager for several years. He then worked as assistant cashier and secretary to the board of directors at Norwest Bank in Keokuk until 1989. That same year, he and his wife opened Lucas Fine Furniture in Keokuk, which they owned and operated until 2002. They also owned and operated Lucas River Lodge on their property south of Nauvoo.

He was a 1965 graduate of Carthage High School and received an associate of arts degree from Southeastern Community College. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman, bird watcher and raised flowers. He also bred and raised miniature horses. He was a member of First Christian Church in Hamilton, Ill., where he was a deacon. He was a charter member of the Keokuk Optimist Club, member of Keokuk Main Street Board of Directors, the Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce and the American Miniature Horse Registry.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Julie Ann Simpson of Fort Madison and Jennifer Kay Lucas of Keokuk; four grandchildren; and his mother.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. at a luncheon following the service Friday at the church.

The memorial service for Mr. Lucas will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Hamilton, with the Revs. Phoebe Blankenship and John Simpson officiating.

A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.

Joseph Alan Bunik, my oldest brother

Joseph Alan Bunik, a Senior Sales and Marketing Manager at Rohm LSI in San Jose, died on May 24, 1998 of brain cancer. He was 49.

Joe was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on June 28, 1948, and moved to Madison, Nebraska at an early age. He attended Madison High School and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

He received a BA degree in geography/geology, then moved to Canada, where he earned his MA in geography at the University of Toronto. His thesis was titled "Quantitative Aspects of Fluvial Geomorphology".

Joe went from studying maps to creating mapping software, and from there it was not a far jump to circuit board design software. He spent 15 years developing Design Automation software for a variety of companies, then moved into Sales and Marketing for the past 12 years.

After living for 8 years in Canada, Joe came to California and lived in the Bay Area since 1978, except for a 2-year stint in Orange County. In recent years he has worked as Senior Sales and Marketing manager at Hitachi (Brisbane), Hughes (Orange County) and Rohm (San Jose) Corporations.

Over the years his hobbies have included trains (he collected and built model trains and chased real trains with his son), fast cars (especially classic Jaguars), French pop music, woodworking, and home improvement projects.

His business travels took him on 28 trips to Japan, and he spoke some Japanese as well as French and German. Philosophically he was a Buddhist.

Joe is survived by his parents, Joseph H. and Martha Jane Bunik and brother Chris Bunik, all of Madison, Nebraska, his sister Linda Bunik and brother Bruce Bunik of Lincoln Nebraska, his son Joseph Carl Bunik and daughter Teresa Bunik of Tustin, CA, his wife of 28 years, Rita, of Tustin CA, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends all over the world.

Joe was truly loved by many people who came together to help him through his nine months of illness.

Burial will be in his hometown of Madison, Nebraska.
